Let me share with you my inspiring journey as a self-taught wood carver from the small town of Gornja Radgona, Slovenia. It all began in late 2020 when the world was grappling with the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic and the first lockdown was enforced. At that time, I was working in the tap room of a local craft brewery, but we had to shut it down for a few months. With plenty of free time on my hands, I found myself exploring various avenues of creativity.

During this period, I stumbled upon wood carving videos on YouTube, and they sparked something within me. The incredible range of objects that could be crafted from a simple piece of wood fascinated me. The idea that beauty could arise from seemingly nothing deeply intrigued me. As I dived deeper into this world, my fascination grew, and I felt an irresistible urge to try my hand at carving.

Armed with some inexpensive chisels and a rotary tool, I embarked on my wood carving journey. I started by practicing on old wood that I found in our family barn. From the very beginning, I experienced an immediate connection and fell head over heels for wood carving. The process of cutting, grinding, and the earthy scent of wood filled me with a profound sense of fulfillment. It felt like I had discovered my true calling. Every time I immersed myself in carving, I entered a different realm where time slipped away, and I was fully engrossed in my craft.

I initially focused on face carvings, also known as Wood Spirit Carvings. Sculpting a face from a solid block of wood presented both excitement and challenges. But with determination and countless hours of practice, I gained confidence and successfully carved my first Wood Spirit from Willow wood. With each subsequent creation, I witnessed marked improvement as I dedicated myself to studying and perfecting my technique. Over time, my repertoire expanded to include wooden skulls, utensils, necklaces, pendants, and a diverse array of unique pieces. My passion for the craft only grew stronger.
