About the Wood Spirits and the art
The story about Wood Spirits begins in the 15th century with a legend that spread across the world about a special being called the Wood Spirit. According to the legend, when hunters went into the woods and didn’t come back, villagers believed that they had been taken by evil spirits. They thought that the trees in the forest made moaning and sighing sounds, as if there were voices coming from the spirits within them, especially on stormy days with strong winds.
For many centuries, people believed that the forests were filled with these mystical spirits. They thought that those who entered the woods would face the wrath of these spirits. However, they also believed that the tree spirits were wise and powerful, and they could protect people from evil. To seek their protection, the villagers would knock on trees before going into the woods to hunt. This action was believed to awaken the sleeping wood spirit, who would then safeguard them.
This tradition is where the saying “Knock on Wood” for good luck comes from. People would tap or knock on a piece of wood to bring forth the protective power of the wood spirit. Some individuals even carved images of wood spirits on walking sticks or pieces of wood to keep themselves safe during their travels.
Since I began carving, I have discovered a unique connection with these wood spirits. When I touch a piece of wood and bring out their true faces through carving, I feel the magical power of the wood spirits within me. I believe that these wood spirits bring good luck, health, and happiness to those who possess them. If you have a wooden object with my wood spirit, your home will be protected by its presence.
So, by carving these wood spirits and having them with you, you can enjoy the blessings they bring, ensuring good fortune and well-being in your life.
